This chapter draws together the main themes and lessons of the book referring in turn to concepts, research findings and policy implications, data and measures, and modelling approaches. It proposes a number of topics for future research on income mobility and poverty dynamics. They include further work on: the normative underpinnings of different patterns of mobility; explanations for differences in patterns and trends in Britain compared to other countries; the impact of recent tax-benefit changes and of the 2007–8 recession; the design of policies to promote individual income growth and reduce poverty persistence; the nature of measurement error in incomes; longitudinal data collection; and modelling approaches taking account of both economic and demographic changes within households.
