This chapter examines how Eoin O'Duffy's eclectic ideology combined aspects of European fascist ideology with domestic political traditions. It explores how the incompatibility between his radical instinct and his party's conservatism led to his inevitable political demise. The chapter suggests that though O'Duffy's politics are often dismissed as an incoherent imitation of continental fascism, there was clearly much continuity between his political outlook and the concerns which had characterized his earlier years in public life.
