Show Summary Details

This concluding chapter sums up the arguments put forward in its predecessors relating to the character of the anti-Ottoman crusade and its representation, the evolution of papal policy in respect of the Turkish advance, and the failure of lobbyists and enthusiasts to mobilize the resources of Catholic Europe for the cause of its collective defence. The chapter comes to a close with a brief commentary on the limited impact that crusading made on the military situation in the east.
