Different understandings of ‘construction’ are discussed against the background of Cognitive Grammar. The chapter addresses the feasibility of construction-based grammars vis‐à‐vis rule‐based grammars, concluding that the whole of syntax can be accommodated by means of constructions, of varying degrees of generality and scope.
