Anion and cation bonding strengths

Preview

The bonding strengths of the ions, listed in Appendix 4, are the valences of the bonds the ions typically form, i.e. their atomic valence divided by a typical coordination number. Bonding strengths of cations correlate with pH and electronegativity. Soft ions can have a range of bonding strengths. The valence matching principle states that the most stable compounds are formed between ions with the same bonding strength.
