Chapter 9 deals with dataveillance, which refers to the use of personal information of citizens for purposes other than the one for which the information is collected. The Aadhaar programme collects a lot of personal information, and although various safeguards are proposed to be put in place to protect the personal information of the citizens in order to safeguard privacy, the chapter finds that there is considerable scope for dataveillance, which will enable the Aadhaar programme to bring the market into the lives of the poor.
