There are several types of carbon credits under the international, regional and national emissions trading schemes, and as to be expected, there are many different approaches to contacting for the sale and purchase of these assets. This chapter provides an overview of some of the options for contracting for carbon by focusing on the following: a history of carbon contracting approaches; the key issues involved in carbon contracting; some recent contracting issues; and some approaches to the structuring of financing arrangements for carbon projects.
