Major views of persistence—endurantism, perdurantism and exdurantism—are stated in a generic spacetime framework, based on the underlying concept of ’achronal region’. This requires the resources of region‐relativized mereology and theory of location. The notions of exact location and quasi‐location figure centrally in the definitions of ’path’, ’persistence’, ’achronal part’, ’diachronic part’, ’endurance’, ’perdurance’, and ’exdurance’. Issues of temporal modification and temporary intrinsics are briefly discussed, as are the advantages and limitations of the resulting classification of the modes of persistence. The chapter ends with a discussion of an alternative classification.

Keywords: endurantism; perdurantism; exdurantism; achronal region; location; quasi‐location; achronal part; diachronic part; temporal modification; temporary intrinsics
