The importance of creating a link between the findings of neuroscience research and the contexts in which teaching and learning take place has recently been established. However, issues have been raised regarding the gap between findings in neuroscience and their usefulness for educational contexts, and suggestions have been made about how this gap could be bridged. This chapter reviews the literature from 1970–2011 to identify: literature central to an understanding of the connection between neuroscience and education; and prevalent themes in this literature related to the connection between neuroscience and education. Eighty-six works were selected for analysis due to their focus on the problems, solutions, and recommendations associated with connecting the disciplines of neuroscience and education (educational neuroscience). Seven themes emerged from the categorization of the content of these articles: misapplication, multiple disciplines, language, knowledge development, value, collaboration, and research design. The chapter presents a visual framework representing the relationships among these themes to consolidate an understanding of issues in the literature.
