Post-Deal Integration

Show Summary Details

Despite over a century of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) experience, managing the post-deal integration phase remains a key hurdle and major challenge in making M&A perform according to expectations. This chapter provides a review of the state of the art of the academic literature on M&A integration. It starts with an overview of the progress of the field starting from the 1960s; before discussing factors identified as critical for integration success and to exploring the effect of integration on M&A performance. To set the findings in a practical context it provides an illustrative case of a recent university merger. Conclusions, trends, and future research directions end the chapter.
