In this chapter the first fundamental function connecting the three main subsystems of the brain (sensory–cognitive, emotional, motor–decisional) is presented: Behavior. After having studied the classical behaviorist approach to the problem and considered some of its intrinsic limitations, the school of ethology is presented, which has preferred observational studies on the field to laboratory experiments. Finally, the true revolutionary discovery of mirror neurons that allows us to treat the high forms of behavior as determined by the third-order representational system in a very precise and rich form is presented.
