Even though files are based on contextual relations, not all of them are short-lived. Examples of stable files include: the self file, recognitional files, encyclopedic files. It is argued that the indexical model applies to the self file and to recognitional files, and even to encyclopedic files, despite the fact that they do not depend upon specific contextual relations to the reference.
