Indexed Files at Work

Show Summary Details

Linking between indexed files and regular files is shown to work differently from linking as it operates between regular files. Various phenomena involving indexed files are discussed, including thoughts/utterances that are not metarepresentational at the level of truth-conditional content. It is argued that indexed files are a simulative device, reminiscent of the echoic use of words in open quotation.
