To derive spherically symmetric solutions of the Einstein equations the dimensional reduction is used. The Birkhoff theorem is proved, which shows that any vacuum spherically symmetric solution possesses an additional symmetry and is in fact static. The Schwarzschild solution, its properties and the global structure are discussed. We make brief remarks on the properties of the black hole interior and higher dimensional generalization of the Schwarzschild black hole.
