This chapter presents selected accounts on the role of music in confirming self-image and identity. Music can be seen as a representative for another person, a fellow being and conversation partner who understands one's situation, and one's thoughts and feelings. Music reflects the self, one recognizes oneself in the music and can identify with it. The self can feel as if music speaks directly to one being, as though one is chosen to receive what the music has to say. One can experience this both in solitude and when one is together with other people.
