After recapitulating some of the salient features of Jaakko Hintikka’s work on developing a decision-theoretic approach to inductive inference (work he undertook in collaboration with Hilpinen, Niiniluoto, and Pietarinen among others), attention is focused on Hintikka’s elaboration of the “interrogative model” and the understanding of induction, abduction, and oracles within that model in comparison with routine expansion as understood in these essays.
