Based on in-depth interviews with various apostates from various religions, this chapter reveals the extent to which the rejection of religion is often triggered by issues surrounding sex and sexuality. It essentially offers a more in-depth discussion of what was raised in the previous chapter. By presenting numerous life-story examples, matters of guilt, shame, and struggling with premarital sex are explored. And for many people, the desire to have sex trumped the desire to stay within their religious fold. Previous research on religion, secularity, and sex is presented and discussed.
