This chapter discusses how to assess the results of clinical trials. It argues that there is no such thing as unfiltered information, even if you sat in the data center for the trial. Data are “edited” and “cleaned” before they are analyzed; edited to check for inconsistent information, imputation of missing data, and “trimming” to reduce the influence of extreme values on distribution dependent statistics. The hope you have as a reader is that the filtering is independent of the treatment results. The first question you have to answer, with a paper in hand is: Are the results relevant to my interests or needs? The chapter presents indices for rating clinical trials. These include a Clinical Relevance Index, Skepticism Index, and Analysis and Discussion Confidence Index.
