This chapter reviews how American history has been taught. It blames historians for the low quality of history classroom education taught during World War II and much of the Cold War, and sees improvements with the rise of new histories, beginning in the 1960s. Deploring the present-day attack on public schools, the chapter calls upon the Organization of American Historians to join in a battle for equality in educational opportunities.
