This chapter argues that happiness is an essential quality of God’s own life as that is described in the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible. God’s happiness affects the created world and is in turn affected by the created world. God gifts human beings with happiness but does the same for non-human creatures as well. This means that these latter, too, are capable of happiness and joy, which is often expressed in their praise of God. Happiness is thus a way to talk about the flourishing of all creation.
