The chapter opens with a sketch of the author’s philosophical naturalism, a tendency with a long history, but considerably different that the naturalisms that are popular today. The chapter’s thesis is that Wittgenstein’s naturalism is of a piece with what was sketched. Wittgenstein’s treatment of Pain vocabulary is explored at some length as both exemplifying the tendency in question and it’s own terms quite a natural view.
