Sean Connery leaves the Bond series and is replaced, for a single film, by Australian actor George Lazenby. For John Barry — now the recipient of three Oscars for his non-Bond film scores — the assignment was to reinforce, musically, that this new fellow is James Bond. He writes an instrumental theme for the credits (“On Her Majesty's Secret Service”) and a love theme for Bond's new romantic interest, played by Diana Rigg (“We Have All the Time in the World”) with Hal David lyrics. For the latter, Barry recruited aging jazz performer Louis Armstrong (and their recording would become a hit after its use in an English beer commercial 25 years later). Barry employed the then-new Moog synthesizer throughout the score, making OHMSS the first major studio films to use this new technology so prominently; legendary producer Phil Ramone joined Barry in London for the 1969 recording.
