This chapter considers the future of public health as it relates to violence, with a focus on two key roles: the prevention of violence and the organization and commissioning of research in and for health services. It argues that this dual focus (rather than just a focus on violence prevention) is particularly important because it “allows comparisons between, on the one hand, the development of research and, on the other, research infrastructure in health and in crime and justice and points to reforms that could usefully be made.” One of these reforms is the integration of victim services with mental health services.
