This chapter relates the interesting and dramatic fate of the second oldest university in the Czech Lands: Olomouc University. Research on the history of the University has been facilitated by the existence of original editions of the most significant documents from the history of the University from 1566 to 1946. This chapter explains that the Jesuits played a decisive role in the foundation and early years of Olomouc University, increasing its intervention in education in the 18th century and having an interest in limiting the Jesuit monopoly on education. The University survived until 1860 when it was disbanded completely and after various unsuccessful attempts, was reestablished in 1946, receiving the name Palacký University after the renowned historian František Palacký.
