The waterspout consists of a vortex of air spiralling inward to a central region of low pressure and made visible by the condensation of atmospheric water vapour as it enters the low-pressure region. A spray ring around the base of the waterspout consists of surface water whipped into spray by the air being drawn into the vortex....
