Randolph, Thomas Mann (01 October 1768–20 June 1828), member of Congress and governor of Virginia, was born at Tuckahoe in Goochland County, Virginia, the son of Thomas Mann Randolph and Anne Cary. He was a great-great-grandson of William Randolph of Turkey Island, who migrated to Virginia from England in 1673 and became the progenitor of a distinguished American family. Randolph was educated privately by a tutor at home until he entered the University of Edinburgh, where he remained for four years. Although he did not graduate from Edinburgh, he demonstrated an aptitude for scientific subjects while at the university....
