Wallace, Lurleen Burns (19 September 1926–07 May 1968), governor of Alabama, was born Lurleen Burns in Fosters, Alabama, the daughter of Henry Morgan Burns, a river bargeman and farmer, and Janie Estelle Burroughs. Reared in a small, rural community in Tuscaloosa County, she attended local schools and graduated from high school at the age of fifteen.
