Tytus, John Butler, Jr. (06 December 1875–02 June 1944), inventor and engineer, was born in Middletown, Ohio, the son of John Butler Tytus, Sr., a paper manufacturer, and Minnesota Ewing. Tytus displayed a precocious mechanical ability at the papermaking mill that his grandfather had set up in the 1850s and that his father had operated after the grandfather’s death. The mill’s Fourdrinier papermaking machines inspired Tytus to begin to consider a continuous process for rolling sheets of steel....
