Moore, Robert Lee (14 November 1882–04 October 1974), mathematician, was born in Dallas, Texas, the son of Charles Jonathan Moore, owner of a hardware and feed store, and Louisa Ann Moore ( née Moore). While in high school in Dallas, Moore taught himself a substantial amount of calculus from the required textbook at the University of Texas at Austin before entering that institution at the age of sixteen.
