Milmore, Martin (14 September 1844–21 July 1883), sculptor, was born in Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland, the son of a schoolmaster. His parents’ names are unknown. Shortly after his father’s death in 1851, Martin, along with his mother and three young brothers, immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts. He was enrolled at the Boston Latin School and studied art at the Lowell Institute for seven years. He learned wood carving from his older brother, Joseph, who was an accomplished stonecutter....
