Trott, Benjamin (1770?–27 November 1843), portrait painter in miniature and oil, was born in Boston, Massachusetts. His origins and his training as a painter are not known. Trott’s earliest recorded works are the bust-length oil portraits of residents of Nottoway County, Virginia, that he painted with William Lovett in 1793; this collaboration produced the only known oil paintings by Trott.
