Three Stooges, stage and film comedy team, comprised, in changing combinations, Shemp Howard (17 Mar. 1895–22 Nov. 1955), Moe Howard (19 June 1897–4 May 1975), Curly Howard (22 Oct. 1903–18 Jan. 1952), and Larry Fine (5 Oct. 1902–24 Jan. 1975). Shemp, Moe, and Curly Howard were born, respectively, Samuel Horwitz, Moses Harry Horwitz, and Jerome Horwitz in Bensonhurst, New York, the sons of Solomon Horwitz (originally Gorowitz), a clothing cutter and peddler, and Jennie (maiden name unknown), a real estate saleswoman. Larry Fine was born Louis (sometimes given as Lawrence) Feinberg in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph Feinberg and Fanny Lieberman, the owners of a watch repair and jewelry shop....
