King, Henry (24 January 1886–29 June 1982), film director, was born in Christiansburg, Virginia, the son of Isaac Green King and Martha Ellen Sumner, farmers. When King was twelve his father died, and he went to work for the Norfolk and Western railroad. Attracted to the stage since childhood, King left the railroad to work as an actor in touring stock companies. In 1912 he began acting in films for the Lubin Company in California. As he had in the theater, he made suggestions for staging scenes, which led to his directing films beginning in 1916. His 1919 film ...
