Ahrenberg studied first in Helsinki in 1866, then from 1870 onwards he worked in Stockholm and went on study tours. In 1886, he was appointed as a government architect. He was responsible for many buildings in Finland, Sweden and Russia. His watercolours are mainly of architectural subjects. He received an honourable mention at the Paris Exposition
