Born 28 November 1806, in Varallo Sesia (Piedmont); died 1887, in Gioberti, near Turin.


After having visited the academies in Milan and Turin, Giovanni Albertoni went to Rome where he became Thorvaldsen's pupil. He stayed there 16 years and was recalled to Turin by Queen Marie-Adélaïde. He then sculpted the magnificent tomb of Queen Marie-Christine, which can be seen at the Abbey
