Angelelli studied at the academy of art in Florence. He accompanied the archaeologists Ippolito Rossellini and Jean François Champollion on their expedition to Egypt in 1827. Rossellini's book Monuments of Egypt and Nubia is illlustrated with nearly 400 drawings by Angelelli, many of which are in the Uffizi
