Antonello de Saliba was the son of a woodcarver. He was a pupil of the Messina painter Jacobello di Antonio before going to Venice to perfect his art. He returned to Sicily and worked there from 1497 to 1535. His masterpiece, in the museum of Catania, is a Madonna seated on a throne and
