Italian, 18th century, male.

Born 1704, in Ancona; died 1792, in Perugia.

Painter.

Studied initially under Domenico Magatta and F. Trevisani. He settled first in Rome, where he befriended Conca and Mancini. His painting of the Death of St Dominic, commissioned by Pope Benoit XIII for the church of S Sisto Vecchio in Rome, pleased the pope so much that he awarded Appiani a gold medal
