Brother of Félix and Alexandre Auvray, Louis Auvray studied under Léonce de Fieuzal in Valenciennes and under David d'Angers in Paris. In addition to being a sculptor, he was a successful writer who came to prominence between 1857 and 1868 with his Revue du Salon and, from 1860, as the founding editor
