The son of a stonecutter, as a sculptor Ivan Avoscan was to continue to work in the Burgundian limestone of his birthplace. His combination of geometric rigour and balanced masses retains the spirit of the Romanesque churches of the area. Cut directly into the stone, Avoscan's work explores the balance between powerful solids and delicate voids and the contrast
