Born 1611, in Antwerp, where he was baptised 21 July; died 13 March 1654.

Painter. Religious subjects, allegorical subjects, genre scenes.

Jan van Balen was the eldest son of Hendrik van Balen the Elder. He trained under his father and travelled to Italy, returning to Antwerp in 1642.
