A pupil of Gérôme, Vincent Chevillard, Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury, Gustave Barrier painted many works in which he contrasts the brilliance of porcelain with the matte surface of ivory. He also painted genre scenes with gentlemen and musketeers from the time of Louis XIII. His works include White Porcelain;
