Painter (including gouache), sculptor, draughtsman. Mythological subjects, figures, portraits, landscapes, landscapes with figures, animals.

A pupil of Jules Coutan and Paul Landowski at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Bate won the Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1927. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, receiving an honourable mention
