Marc Baumann studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris from 1940 to 1947 with Raymond Legueult. He won the Prix d'Honneur of the François Desnoyer studio in 1945.

Baumann designed several cartoons for tapestries woven at the Aubusson factory including Spring (1950) and Poem to the Sea (1951). Three of his designs were realised at the Gobelins factory for the
