André Becquerel studied with Hector Lemaire and Prosper Lecourtier, who advised him to specialise in animal sculpture. In this genre he showed a marked preference for predators and felines. Between 1914 and 1921, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member.
