Claude Bellan studied humanities, and began painting in 1952 under the influence of Matisse. He continued to work part-time at the Centre Nationale des Recherches Scientifiques (CNRS). Since the 1990s, he has lived and worked in Pugnac, in the Gironde.

He has participated in group exhibitions including: 1963, Salon
