Painter, illustrator.

After studying history of art and philosophy at the universities of Königsberg (now Kaliningrad, Russia) and Münster, Hubert Berke was a student of Paul Klee in Düsseldorf in 1932-1933. In addition to his abstract paintings, he illustrated various books, including works by Ernest Hemingway and Jean-Paul Sartre's The Flies.
