Painter, draughtsman, illustrator, engraver. History painting, genre scenes.

He was a pupil of Beauvarlet, and mainly concentrated on illustration.

His works, and particularly his drawings, are highly sought after. He provided illustrations for a number of books by Restif de la Bretonne, including The Father's Curse, The Perverted Peasant and Contemporary Women.
