A pupil of Pierre Guérin, Guillaume Bodinier entered the École des Beaux-Arts in 1817 and won first-class medals in 1827 and 1846. He lived in Italy between 1822 and 1826, and again between 1833 and 1847, but this did not prevent his exhibiting at the
