Germain Bonel studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Perpignan from 1941 until 1948. In 1950 he met and was mentored by François Desnoyer.

Although he was from a later generation, his style was similar to that of Le Fauconnier. He applied his paint generously and sensuously, though not in such thick layers
